Initially Ed worked on turning around a project to integrate Smart systems with the NHS Electronic Staff Record project supplied by McKesson. This was struggling through a complex testing phase which Ed brought into focus with revised planning, objectives and organisations for all three parties involved.

Ed then was given the broader responsibility for all customer facing project activities at Smart, managing a team of Project Managers and Consultants and the full portfolio of up to 100 concurrent jobs for 40 customers, ranging from a few £thousands to £1/2M projects.

He brought more structured, Customer Focused approach to project delivery, taking ultimate commercial and technical responsibility for projects while developing the Project staff to become more commercially aware and customer oriented, improving our larger customers’ confidence in Smart as a supplier.

In addition to this, he recruited and trained the team to handle the project workload, managed several projects himself and sat on the Operations Board. Projects included major implementations for West Midlands and Manchester Fire Services, Guys & St. Thomas and Blackpool NHS Trust, the British Library, British Airports Authority and many others.
